The special and emotional journey of marriage is one worth celebrating after your wedding day. Your wedding marks the start of your marriage, but your love deserves so much more than one single day of celebration! That’s what makes newlywed sessions so incredible and important, they allow you to have time to celebrate your love and your marriage without the whirlwind that is a wedding day on your mind. In this article we’re going to look into what newlywed sessions are, why I recommend them for ANY couple, and what makes the Chicagoland area perfect for these sessions.
Before we can get into why you should have a newlywed session and why the Chicagoland area would be the perfect setting for it, we need to go over exactly what a newlywed session is. Like the name suggests, a newlywed session is a photography session with a married couple with a focus on celebrating your wedding day and your marriage to one another. This often means that the couple will wear their wedding attire or some form of wedding attire, which is one of the many factors that set these sessions apart from all other photography sessions. As mentioned previously a marriage is SUCH a huge moment in any relationship and deserves so much more than one single day of celebration. A newlywed session is just that, a chance for you to celebrate your marriage and love for one another!
The inevitable craziness of a wedding day often leads to couples being a bit more on edge for their wedding day portraits than they would have liked to be. A newlywed session gives you total freedom for your portraits in terms of now having to worry about your wedding day timeline or other stressors from your day. Not only that, but newlywed sessions also give you the opportunity for portraits in your wedding gear at locations that just wouldn’t have been possible to go to on your wedding day. This is what makes newlywed sessions in the Chicagoland area SO special, as there are basically endless locations and opportunities for your portraits.
Like I said, Chicago and the areas surrounding it are filled to the brim with unique and incredible locations that are perfect backdrops for your newlywed session. From iconic locations in Chicago such as Museum Campus, North Avenue Beach, or scenic spaces outside the city like Starved Rock or Blackwell Forest Preserve. Or head to more personal or intimate locations like your favorite thrift shops, record stores, breweries in or around the Chicago area. You can even have your session in a cornfield to really get that intimate feel for your session. Whatever you’re looking for in terms of a background for your newlywed session portraits, the Chicagoland area has you covered!
Also worth mentioning is that when you book me as your photographer for your newlywed session in the Chicagoland area I’ll be able to help you with location scouting as well as find information on any photography permits that are required at your locations. My goal as your photographer is to make this session as simple and enjoyable for you. That way you can fully focus on enjoying yourselves and celebrating this moment of life you’ve created for yourselves!
Probably my favorite part of newlywed sessions is how creative and unique couples can get with them. Finding unique locations in the Chicagoland area that fit you and your style as a couple is just the first step in making your newlywed session true to you! One great way for couples to get creative with their newlywed session is to change up the look of their wedding day attire. Whether that’s a different style to your hair and makeup, a different suit or dress, different shoes, really anything you want!
Another thing I recommend for newlywed sessions, and this goes along with the location, is to do an activity as part of your session. Something that adds to the experience of your session such as having a picnic during your session at Blackwell Forest Preserve can really add to the feel of your album! Lastly, have your newlywed session during the season YOU want. There’s no reason you have to have your session immediately after your wedding day. If you had a summer wedding so your friends and family would all make it, but if you both love the look and feel of a fresh snowfall have your session in the winter!
Newlywed sessions in the Chicagoland area are SO much fun and such a beautiful way for couples to celebrate their marriage. Being able to fully enjoy yourselves and focus on celebrating this incredible moment in your relationship with a newlywed session is something I cannot recommend enough.
