Akhila and Saran’s engagement session at Garfield Park Conservatory was breathtaking and so much fun to be a part of. Akhila and Saran have an arranged relationship, but could not be more perfect for one another. They share such a beautiful and pure love for one another which made their engagement session so special to document.
I met Akhila and Saran at Garfield Park Conservatory for their engagement session earlier in the day this past winter. Garfield Park Conservatory’s hours are 10 am-5 pm Thursday through Sunday, so I try to schedule sessions earlier in the day so we can avoid the evening crowds. I love sessions at the conservatory because there is so much to explore throughout the space. Dessert plants, tropical plants, and everything in between made for so many beautiful backdrops throughout our session.
After we finished exploring Garfield Park Conservatory, the three of us headed out to finish their engagement session at the Chicago Riverwalk. Starting by the Tribune Building, we enjoy the holiday lights and decorations that cover the city. I love the magical feeling that the city holds when decorated for the holidays as everyone is so excited and the lights are always so breathtaking. After taking engagement photos by the Tribune Building, we headed down to the Riverwalk to finish up their engagement session.
Arranged marriages are quite common in Indian culture, and are often a celebrated practice for many even in America. In traditional Indian culture, parents and other family members will help choose a spouse for their child. This is not a forced marriage, and children often agree to marry their parents’ choice or oftentimes will choose from a handful of suitors chosen by their parents.
Their first few meetings are often chaperoned by parents or other family members, and then if neither party has vetoed the suitor, they will continue onto solo dates. Akhila and Saran’s families did a wonderful job finding a partner for Akhila and Saran. They are so perfect for one another, as you can see from their photos. They love to laugh and experience life with one another and have the best time exploring the city with one another, much like we did following their portion of their engagement session at Garfield Park Conservatory.
Khila and Saran’s engagement session at Garfield Park Conservatory and the Chicago Riverwalk was an incredible experience from start to finish. These two are so much fun to work with and photograph, and show just how beautiful arranged relationships can be!
